Óscar Aitken is partner of Carey and heads of the firm’s Engineering and Construction practice. In the engineering and construction practice, Mr. Aitken has vast experience in contracts for all phases of engineering work, as well as in all forms of construction and infrastructure related contracts including Design Built, EPC, EPCM and BOT. His practice ranges from experience with early stages of project development to bidding (including public concessions and PPP projects), negotiation and preparation of contract documents, claims management and dispute resolution.

Mr. Aitken also has experience in real estate and has been involved in a variety of projects from development of natural conservation parks to housing projects, office and apartment buildings, hotels, industrial developments, etc., including title review, sale and purchase, promise agreements, leases, mortgages (including foreclosure), financing and tax structures, zoning, permitting and others.

He studied Law at Universidad de Chile, graduating with maximum distinction and he also holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Michigan.

He has been recognized as Leading Individual in Real Estate by Chambers Latin America, Project Finance & Infrastructure by Latin Lawyer 250, in Construction Public Procurement and Project Finance, Who’s Who Legal (2014), and in Real Estate by Leading Lawyers 2014.

Also he is Past Co-chair of the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee, International Construction Projects Practice Group of the International Bar Association (IBA), Founding Fellow of the International Academy of Construction Lawyers and Arbitrator of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center.
